How to choose
- Platforms. Everyone covers Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X and YouTube except the text-only tools. Beyond those five, Postiz (35), Upload-Post (22) and Zernio (16) go widest.
- Hosted vs self-hosted. Hosted means no developer apps, no token refreshes, one browser approval per account. Self-hosted means free but you own the Meta, TikTok and X app registrations.
- Authentication. OAuth servers work as personal connectors in the Claude apps with no key. API-key servers need the key in a header or environment variable and some cannot be added to Claude.ai at all.
- Human in the loop. Posting is irreversible. Prefer a server that reads the post back or queues by default, or add the confirmation yourself in the prompt.
- Extras. Comment-to-DM automation (Scorper, Blotato, Upload-Post skill), media generation (Blotato, Scorper, Postiz Team+), approval workflows (PostEverywhere), analytics (Metricool, Buffer).

Open-source and single-platform options
- Postbase (github.com/postbasehq/postbase): self-hosted, AGPL-3.0, X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon, TikTok, YouTube.
- EnesCinr/twitter-mcp: X only, MIT, about 400 stars.
- Upload-Post and PostEverywhere publish their MCP servers under MIT even though the services are hosted.
- Scorper's CLI is open source on npm and GitHub; the hosted server holds the platform integrations.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a social media MCP server?
- A server that exposes posting, scheduling and account tools to AI agents through the Model Context Protocol. Connect it to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, ChatGPT or the Claude app and the agent can publish to your social accounts when you ask it to.
- Hosted or self-hosted?
- Hosted servers (most on this list) hold the platform developer apps and tokens for you; you approve each social account once in your browser. Self-hosting (Postiz, Postbase) is free but you register your own developer app with each platform and keep tokens fresh yourself.
- Which ones confirm before posting?
- Scorper reads the post back and waits for a yes by default. Socialync publishes after your yes in chat. PostEverywhere has explicit draft and approval tools. Ayrshare's Claude Code plugin adds a confirmation hook. Buffer queues by default. Postiz and Blotato rely on the MCP client showing each tool call.
- Which is cheapest?
- For a free tier with an MCP: Buffer (3 channels), Upload-Post (10 uploads a month), Socialync (5 posts a month), Zernio (2 accounts). For one brand on five platforms with everything included, Scorper Max is $25 a month and PostEverywhere Starter is $19 for 5 accounts.
- Do I need an API key?
- Not with the OAuth servers (Scorper, Postiz, Buffer, Blotato for Claude, Zernio, Upload-Post in Claude, PostEverywhere as a connector, Typefully, Metricool, Post Bridge). Ayrshare is API-key only, which also means it cannot be added as a personal Claude.ai connector.
- Why is Scorper on its own list?
- Because leaving it off would be stranger. The facts for every entry, including ours, were read from the vendor's own pages on the same day, and the competitors are described in their own terms. Pick by the criteria, not the author.
